General Description

Senior Network Engineer – Advanced Comms & Distributed Systems

Do you have the following skills, experience and drive to succeed in this role Find out below.

The Company

Join a cutting-edge engineering organisation developing advanced communication systems for a new generation of distributed, high-reliability platforms. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where software, hardware, RF and systems teams work together to build resilient, high-performance networks across geographically distributed infrastructure.

This is an opportunity to work on genuinely unique networking challenges, far beyond typical terrestrial systems.

The Role

We’re seeking a practical, curious and hands-on Senior Network Engineer to design, build and support IP-based communication systems spanning multiple regions, ground infrastructure and remote platforms. You’ll work across Linux networking, routing, monitoring, protocol development and systems integration.

You’ll help create the upper-layer communication logic, enhance observability, optimise performance, and collaborate closely with lower-layer and platform engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure and maintain a distributed IP-based network across multiple regions and systems (Linux-based)
  • Oversee routing, VPNs, dynamic networking, observability, DNS, QoS and security
  • Develop upper-layer communication logic using robust approaches (e.g., TUN/TAP) and open-source tooling
  • Build monitoring tools for routing behaviour, packet metrics, throughput, latency and traffic flows
  • Drive continuous improvement across performance, testing, debugging and system understanding
  • Contribute to QoS, traffic handling, resource utilisation and multi-tenant environments
  • Work cross-functionally with RF, security, embedded and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth integration

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years designing and implementing communication networks
  • Strong understanding of IP networking (TCP/UDP), tunnelling and secure data handling
  • Solid grounding in network/transport protocols
  • Proactive communication style, collaborative mindset and adaptability
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced engineering environments

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £72,500–£92,000 (DOE)
  • Hybrid: ~3 days onsite (Scotland)
  • Join a highly skilled communications systems team
  • High-impact, meaningful work on complex distributed networks
  • Cross-functional engineering exposure and career growth
