This Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship is a rare opportunity to launch a long-term engineering career at the heart of one of the UK’s most significant low-carbon energy programmes.

You’ll combine academic study with hands-on industry experience, working alongside experienced engineers while completing a BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering through a nationally recognised nuclear engineering apprenticeship standard.
This role is ideal for students who are passionate about engineering, sustainability, and large-scale infrastructure, and who want to play a meaningful role in the UK’s clean energy future.
The Programme
Over four years, you will complete the Level 6 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Degree Apprenticeship, blending structured academic learning with real-world engineering placements.
Year 1
- Full-time residential study at a specialist nuclear engineering college in the South West of England
- Strong grounding in engineering fundamentals, maths and applied science
Years 2–4
- Block-release study combined with paid placements in live engineering teams
- Practical exposure across areas such as:
- Design and engineering
- Core engineering and technical specification
- Pre-operations and engineering processes
- Engineering assurance and governance
- Placements primarily based in London, with some travel to other UK sites

Key Criteria (Essential)

Academic Requirements
- GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above in:
- Mathematics
- English (Language or Literature)
- Minimum 102 UCAS points, achieved through either:
- Three A-Levels (including Maths and a Science subject), or
- A relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g. BTEC Extended Diploma) with strong mathematical content
Skills & Attributes
- Strong interest in engineering, energy or sustainability
- Analytical mindset with confidence in maths and problem-solving
- Curiosity and willingness to learn in a technically complex environment
- Adaptable, proactive and comfortable working across different teams
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders
- High standards of integrity, professionalism and ethical behaviour
Eligibility
- Willingness to study residentially during Year 1
- Openness to travel for placements as required
- Right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme
